This makes me wonder. For all the talk of a Nola to Baton Rouge train, wouldn't a north shore to Nola train make more sense.

The northshore doesn't want public transportation from NOLA.

I am renting a place Uptown. I want to buy next, but none of the areas down here seem worth it to buy for what I want.

Did you look in Old Metairie? If I were to buy on the southshore, that would be my #1.

i'm really trying to convince my wife that we should move to the northshore. she's worried about losing her friends.

anyone ever use a driver to take you to and from new orleans from the north shore for a night out?

Not for a night out, but a cab to the airport is $80 from mandeville.

I did it for about a year and half and some days it sucked, some days it wasnt so bad if you had Sirius XM. Mostly sucked balls and I dont miss it. If you live Uptown, I would stay there.

Been thinking about getting into this. Do you download on cell phone or what. How do I play podcasts in my car?

I'm not arguing that you can't turn your commute into a more relaxing hour, but having been on both sides, I can't do it. Once I switched from commuting to not commuting, I realized I could never go back. I can hardly be bothered to leave my bubble on a Saturday anymore.

100% this. You can absolutely make the ride more enjoyable, but it's the amount of time you lose in the course of a day that's so brutal. I used to leave the house at 5:45am for my 75 minute commute, leave work at 5pm, get to the gym by 6:30, work out for an hour, and get home by about 8. I would barely have time to cook dinner and eat before I needed to get to sleep. Never saw my SO, dogs were neglected, it was just not sustainable.

Now I have such a short commute that I can get home for lunch if I want, and after leaving the gym I'm home no later than 6:15. I don't care how interesting the podcast you listen to is, it's just not a high quality of life IMO.

This is exactly it. My commute now is about 10 minutes in the mornings and 30 minutes in the afternoons, and I still feel like I don't have enough time for going run, taking care of dog, cooking dinner, cleaning kitchen, shower. By the time I finish all that shite, it's damn near time for bed. With an hour commute? Screw that.

this all day.

you lose 2 hours a day x 260 work days a year (5 days a week)
= 3 weeks of the year driving
