I think the reason it stood out to me was Buddy himself. He acted like an arse and left. Later, he is one of coach Dale's most trusted players and #1 defender.

I just figured that Buddy didn't want to be the sole focus of the team. He didn't want the his teammates to be upset with him if a coach rode him all year to be "the guy". After watching the coach he realized that the coach was more about the team than the individual and that the coach didn't care what anyone else thought. Buddy saw how the town was against the coach for no real reason and he decided he wanted to play for him (plus the town was saying Buddy would play if the coach went and Buddy knew that wasn't the case)

That was the reason I came up with anyway.

You're talking about the legendary Jimmy Chitwood. I get that this is a mistake, but it is a pretty big one. Come on, man.

Was it "Buddy" who made every shot on that dirt court with Coach talking to him until he said he didn't care if he played for him or not and then "Buddy" missed the next shot? And, then made the next one, showing that he was rattled for just a moment?

Was it Buddy who said, "I can make it" and then drained the game winning shot against South Bend?

I just can't see a "Buddy" being that clutch.

Looks like he went to play a game with Terhune and couldn't go through with it due to his loyalty to Hickory.

ESPN Classic used to show sports movies with commentary. The guy who played Jimmy was an actual NCAA player from Washington(?). He got in trouble for getting paid for the movie.

He said that scene was done in one take. He tuned Hackman out and just sat there and shot the ball.

That was the guy who played Rade (the one coach would not put in when they played with 4). He was suspended three games by the NCAA.

The actor that played Jimmy was cut from his high school team four times. All the other guys were good players.

One of the great things about the movie is that none of the kids were actors. They were basketball players and it shows. The film is dripping with authenticity. Hollywood too often forgets how important that is to a sports movie.

The little one was the best ball handler. Ironic.

So I got bored last night and decided to watch Hoosiers for the 1 millionth time. I really forgot how big of a count Barbara Hershey's character was until she got all wet for Coach Dale. She really was a serious count.
