Wanted to buy an Ascend 12T for Christmas but Bass Pro doesn't have any listed online anymore.

Did they do any updates for 2016?
You'd think if they were coming out with something else you'd know about it already.

Idk what you plan on using it for, but I purchased one and sold it 3 months later. It paddled like a bus and was cheaply made compared to the native kayak I replace it with.

What native did you get? I will be primarily marsh fishing with an over night river trip here and there

If I were buying a new yak tomorrow with this in mind I would look at:
Native Ultimate 12
Native Slayer 12
Old Town Predator MX (what I currently have and LOVE)
Old Town NEXT
Jackson Cuda 12
Jackson Coosa HD
Pescador Pro 12
Wilderness Systems Commander 140
Wilderness Systems ATAK

At least start there. Go to Masseys, backpacker and/or pack & paddle to look at boats. Keep in mind that marsh fishing (i.e. fishing shallow, normally stagnant water and often standing, paddling for sometimes long distances) is different and requires different things from a kayak than rivery trips (maneuverability, extended seated periods, in-hull storage).

I cannot recommend my Old Town Predator MX enough. It is designed to handle mixed waters and does so with ease. It's not a big water boat (none of the ones I listed are) but it's handled everything I've thrown at it with ease.

The best all around boat though IMO is the Native Ultimate.

There is a big difference in price point in all the yaks you just posted and the ascend 12t. The ascend retails at $649. The closest one is the pescador pro at $829 and I'd definitely suggest ponying up the extra $180 but comparing a $1k+ yak to a $649 yak is apples to oranges. At $649, the ascend is a good boat for the price. They upgraded a few things and fixed the biggest fault by raising the hatches.

I have an ascend fs 128t and there is nothing wrong with that boat at all. I've had numerous trips and caught a bunch of fish with it. Now it doesn't hold a candle to the KC I just got but we're back to prices.

Like Last Coco said though, go to as many stores and physically push and prod on as many different makes and models as you can. Some look great in a pic and aren't all they're cracked up to be in person.

Buy a much better used kayak vs getting a new ascend. I got my predator mx new as a "2nds" for $700. Be patient, watch craigslist, bckf and LASportsman for deals. The ascends are fine for what they are, but I always recommend people buy a better kayak used.

Very good point. Buying used, a lot of times they'll throw in paddles and other extras that will save the op money.
