Question re: Hiring relatives or friends of potential recruits

I once had a post deleted for mentioning (OK, maybe starting) a rumor that a potential recruit had a family member offered a job...then I see posts confirming "older brother of Shea Patterson hired by LSU", and have also seen perpetual mention of an abundance of such practices abused by other schools, most notably Alabama (of course, eh?), so, I'm kinda confused...
Is this just a permanently gray undefined area, like "looks shady, but never illegal", or are there any specific NCAA rules addressing the practice?

sort of hard to police. You can't really tell a school, oh you can't hire this coach because his son plays sports, or because his brother is a recruit.
If they don't actually do the work, or if you give them like a house with it, or if the job is unrelated to the school that is another matter.

Doesn't always work out for the school, aka: Janzen Jackson.

IIRC Russell Shepard's girlfriend had a job at LSU in the sports info office. But I am getting old so very well may be thinking of someone else. Anyway, as long as it is on the up and up it is ok. Where Reggie Bush got in trouble is his family got all kinds of other benefits, i.e. house, etc. The job for his mom would have been ok if it wasn't attached to other stuff.

Saban hiring the West Monroe arse't football coach sure did help Bama and hurt LSU. There you go.

Bama has been doing it for years. There recruiting dept is largest in the country and have a recruiting budget that dwarfs LSU
