at least we didn't invest 3yr/25mil for a back-up center. That money could be used on someone starting.
That is 8 million per year against the cap.

And you guys are paying Ryan Anderson 8 million per year as a back-up.

Even worse, you guys have been paying Eric Gordon 14 million per year to not play at all

And as for Asik, it is of my opinion that having a dominant center in the game at all times is more valuable than trading Asik for a decent PF to start and have a terrible center like Greg Smith come off the bench.

A good PF will only make the team slightly better because there are diminishing returns because everybody else on the court is already really good. It's like having too many cooks in the kitchen. But the depth that Asik brings to the team is extremely valuable. More valuable than getting a PF in my opinion.

So he's worth it.

He has a skill that is completely unique to him though. No big man can shoot threes like Ryno. Asik is just an over payed defensive second string big man with no offensive game whatsoever. The Rockets are paying him starters money to sit the bench.

Not completely unique. There are several big men who can shoot 3's. Dirk, Ersan Ilyasova, and Kevin Love off the top of my head.

There aren't many centers who play defense and rebound as good as Asik. So that is unique. He's worth the money.

The Rockets were one of the best teams in the league with Asik on the floor, and one of the worst when he was on the bench.

Having a center like that on the floor at all times is a lot more valuable in my opinion than the marginal benefit a good starting PF would have on the team.

I'm not saying Anderson isn't worth his $8 million. I'm just saying you can't criticize the Rockets for paying Asik $8 million for coming off the bench when your team also has a player come off the bench who is paid $8 million.
