Music tracks playing out of order

I'm talking about downloaded albums that are numbered correctly, but play out of order.

Do they just play backwards or do they shuffle?
If in iTunes, there's a column with an arrow (other columns say song, artist, genre). If you click the arrow it will put them in the correct order.

Shuffle. Not using itunes. The tracks are in the correct order in the folder and then get scrambled when I go to play them.

My guess is that the "track #" in the metadata for each file does not match the order you have them in the folder. Check this and make sure the track # is correct for each song.
