I know he struggled at end of last yr due to injuries. Are we just assuming he has RT locked up or could Armstead be in the mix there as well?

I heard he's healthy and looks good. He's going to get beat from time to time by speed rushers, but at least Drew can see it. I hear Marcel Jones looks good and is likely to take over next year.

The problem at left tackle is that Charles Brown is on final year of his rookie contract. If he has a great year (which I hope he does), he's going to draw a lot of attention in FA. We'd have to option to franchise him and give Armstead another year to develop. Armstead's skills would be a waste at RT. We'll see.

My hope is still that Brown plays decent and stays healthy. Around midseason, I'm hoping Armstead is healthy enough to take over at LT and Brown becomes our future at RT.

Strief has RT on lock down as long as he stays healthy.
I can't imagine Brown having such a year that the Saints would pay top 5 salary via the tag. With the cash we have next year I imagine they are looking for a cheap replacement at LT if possible with Armstead.

We'll definitely be purging ourselves of some of these reworked contracts. Harper only has guaranteed money for this year. His extension was basically a one year try out.

I forget Smith's contract details.

So can we expect Armstead to assume the OT eligible spot to start this season? Seems like his athleticism would translate nicely.

Probably. He can actually run and catch as well, so that will add some versatility.

Plus i think it would be a nice way to transition from small school to the NFL.

I agree with the possibility of using the franchise tag on him, but I think they'd probably have to use it on Graham. If they get into this situation they may only be able to pay one player.

Originally it was a team option next year but I'm not sure if that got reworked. I think with bonus money due he'll still count about $3 mil if cut but we'd save about $10.5 mil.

Needless to say he will not be back with that contract and our cap situation.

Harper actually isn't costing too much next year and could stay. It's the year after I believe he'll be too much to keep.

Honestly I think we'll let it play out this year and see if Harper or Jenkins has the better year and decide which one to keep.

At the moment Vaccaro seems to have a closer skill set to Jenkins which isn't a good sign for him.
