Wish I could help you with your research, but as mentioned in last night's thread, the wife has not seen it. I even asked her last night if she wanted to sit down with some popcorn and I'd put on the Shawshank DVD.

She said, "Why would I want to do that?"

Apparently she hates great movies that she's never watched.
*sigh*

Sorry, Stephen King is a hack, much like Tom Clancy. It's true, man. His popularity doesn't change that.

I didn't read all the responses, but I'm curious as to why you would care about a woman's taste in movies?

My wife is a very intelligent woman, and I value her opinion on most subjects...but not in movies.

Looks as if I'm in the minority here but my wife will watch Shawshank every time it's on, even if I'm not home.

My wife liked it.

I'm a guy and as I've said here before, I think it's an overrated film. I just don't like Stephen King stories in general. I thought Stand By me sucked too.

The women's equivalents of Shawshank and Point Break are Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing.

That's all you need to know.

I think you should leave your wife and find a more well rounded woman. Just my opinion.

The most important message of Shawshank is about taking of advantage of the life that we are given, and when things get really tough, fight for a life worth living. "Get busy living, or get busy dying." I guess I can see it being more of a guy movie just because there aren't really any female characters, but I think that main point should be relatable to anybody.

I was hoping they made a female version of this movie. Seems like a great idea to me.
