i was flipping thru the channels with my wife and it was on.I stopped to see what scene it was on as most guys do.My wife says i dont see the big deal about that movie.I was like WHAT? The greatest movie ever was just disrespected. It got me thinking though is this a guy flick? i mean there arent any women really in the film and the only romance is at andys expense i never really thought of it as a guy flick but do women watch it every time is on tv? or do they look it like i look at titanic "CHICK FLICK" Shawshank is a male bonding flick with a great story on top of that but do the ladies view this movie as one of the best ever? Homework assignment time folks. i need female perspectives on shawshank.Women of the board perspectives? guys please ask S/O About their thoughts on the movie and report back i really do think women see this movie differently.

My wife isn't a big fan either. She would rather watch real housewives of atlanta apparently.

You are correct.

But women have generally terrible taste in entertainment.

Looks as if I'm in the minority here but my wife will watch Shawshank every time it's on, even if I'm not home.

Shawshank is awesome. The woman would have to have read the book to appreciate it, or be a Stephen King fan in general.

Chick flicks MUST have one or more of three components.

1.Cancer. (Stepmom)

2.A woman and for some reason it is OK.

3.Brad Pitt.

I'm surprised there aren't more movies about breast cancer.

My wife loved the movie and even read Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption after watching it.

This is me as well. It's easily one of my all-time favorite movies.

Some of your bitches just need to do better.

I'm a guy and as I've said here before, I think it's an overrated film. I just don't like Stephen King stories in general. I thought Stand By me sucked too.

Turn in your man card. And quit using Jim Rockford's name if you're going to make effeminate posts.

Sorry, Stephen King is a hack, much like Tom Clancy. It's true, man. His popularity doesn't change that.

My wife didn't want to see it in the theater because she had read the book (which included more tortuous detail of Andy's lot as a jailhouse bitch). After I told her that they didn't show the actual torture/rape, she watched the movie and enjoyed it.

But watching movies like Shawshank and Road House a thousand times is a guy thing, for sure.

I'm not a fan of King's books, but they serve as foundations for great movie making. Shawshank, Stand by Me, The Shining... Classic movies.
