I cannot seem to find this information, but do thumb picks come in .42 or .38 thickness?

Fred Kelly Picks LINK come in light, medium and heavy. Don't know the gauge of them. Might email them and ask. National makes different weight thumb picks too.

Slightly OT. Are guitar picks different than banjo picks?

Don't know ......but there are different gauge and length of thumb and finger picks. I would think its personal preference whether you're a guitar or banjo player. My brother uses a thumb pick and one finger pick to play electric guitar. He started doing that about 4 or 5 years ago......he is a touring musician.

You can use anything for anything (Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top uses a freakin' Mexican peso) - but - some banjo players use metal picks. I don't know of too many guitarists who do...but who cares. Try it out.

Well, I have regular picks that I love, but I just wanted to see if thumb picks came in different thicknesses. This metal banjo pick idea sounds interesting. I may buy one. I just don't like the sound I get from the really thick plastic thumb pick I have.
