My buddy's truck is the same way. Just went into 4-lo randomly after I started it up and I had to drive 10 all of the way back(5 miles)
Just about every GM 4wd has the same problem. Just like every single other chronic problem affecting 95% of their trucks, they haven't fixed it since it's inception(93 I believe was first electronic actuator in GM)

Hey now, Obama can't afford to give them more money to fix all the electrical issues, such as power locks and 4wd switches.

Sounds like your actuator is shot.
If its vacuum or that incredibly shitty oil heater actuator thingy replace it with an electric one.
