hunt tensas before the refuge

When I was a kid my dad was friends with a guy who owned part of Spring Bayou Hunting Club, it butted up to what is now the refuge and I think the family donated some of their land to the refuge if I'm not mistaken.

We would see 50-60 deer day at times and all kinds of wildlife, it was awesome to hunt their after hunting N Louisiana most of my life

Hunted there in the 90s when the Stutts Field was planted in corn. The refuges’ primary management focused around waterfowl. There would be 100k ducks in there at times. The last few weekends of the season we had a brake we would hunt that was 1/2 mile walk from the river. You could bring as many people as you wanted and limit on mallards and gadwalls. It was unreal the ducks would get off that field and start filtering into the woods You would have a pair of ducks working and then look up above them and there would be 100 dropping down

Then the public griped about access and they put an ATV trail right up to it. It got shot out quick and then the field got planted in hardwoods. Good times as a kid
