There is a lot true in this comment. Not sure why you’re being downvoted. He was a founding member and contributed a lot, but was held back. He was also not very confident. John and Paul were absolute alphas and pushed him very hard. When they did let him shine, he did.

Episode 2 random thoughts:
1. So glad they show off John's incessantly-playful, almost class-clown personality for all to see. I think for a lot of casual-to-non-Beatles fans, Lennon is remembered as always being this humorless anti-war activist/sex-drugs-weirdo-hippie/utopian-dreamer/sacrilegious-athiest, when in actuality, he was easily the less-serious Beatle of the bunch and always had been since the early days (as the Anthology 5-disc dvd documentary showed.) He plays around so much, so often, I'm surprised his humor didn't slip out in his music more than it did.
2. Get Back really did turn from a protest song lyrically into a harmless jam simply because they liked the flow of the final lyrics better.
3. La. Gov. Jimmie Davis' "You Are My Sunshine" was a big enough international hit that it was obviously was a memorable traditional song for the Beatles.
4. Every time I see Billy Preston, I think of his story of being a prodigious teen molested nightly by Little Richard during tours. Despite his smiles & success, he was secretly battling his sexuality with alcohol & drugs during this time period, and no one in the studio was aware.
