I think he's either stupid or he's deliberately trying to not prosecute Kyle.
Watched some highlights from yesterday, and multiple questions were not only odd but if anything, make Kyle's case stronger.

This trial is being done by the DA for two purposes. 1. They are diffusing more violence and riots that would come if they did not press charges. 2. They are using the trial to show that Rittenhouse was acting in self defense. The prosecution is essentially complimenting the defense arguments. They are letting this play out.
