I'm usually either a ski host or buy a season pass at Solitude, then buy the 10 pack Alta/Snowbird pass. Alta and Snowbird are great but often have crowds like Colorado resorts. Solitude is in Big Cottonwood Canyon and I can't recall a time I've waited in line for more than two minutes. Terrain is great as well for all levels of skiing. Solitude also has a great ski school and I learned to telemark there.
Really the only resort I avoid skiing is Brighton. Its small, and there are too many out of contol teenagers who don't know what they're doing, or don't care. Snow Basin is good too and noone really goes there either. No crowds. The Park City resorts are good too, perhaps the conditions are a little worse because of the lake effect, weather patterns, and elevation. Those resports focus more on vacationers IMO with Deer Valley being the best experience in that regard. PCMR and The Canyons are good too. You'd be fine anywhere but Brighton IMO.
