Auburn is a heavy research institution which means their lifeblood is federal grant money. I'm sure the leftist professor population are cheering this on, but that's the bottom line with this.
Ron Paul had it correct years ago. We're fricked as long as we're slaves to the fed. Too many states, institutions, jobs and even private businesses rely on the federal printing press. That's the only reason the left pulls this crap...they know as long as they keep printing money, they own DC.

Makes perfect sense, thanks for peeling back the onion layer and giving us a little insight into what makes AU tick, and that's the fed grants etc. In my opinion, when push comes to shove, they would have to bend as AU is state chartered and going against its own Board of Supervisor bylaws, corporate governance.

we've tied so much of our existence to federal subsidies that we are basically serfs under the boot of the federal government

Pretty much all of them are, at least the larger one's... Hell even Troy does research and UAH...
Auburn and the other schools could easily pursue private funding for their research. The only problem with that is the privates are not going to fund bullshite, feel good research like the Federal government does...
