It’s actually pretty straightforward but they edited it to be more confusing than they need it to be

Glad I read this thread earlier when I hadn’t watched it on HBO max and really liked it. The cinematography was obviously beautiful but I liked everybody in it too, the kid was a good actor. It really is annoying these days with the audio tracks but that’s the beauty of watching it at home and putting on captions. Only negative is I’ll have to watch it at night because at the end I couldn’t see anything in the dark scenes.

Also, does the emperors daughter do her visit in the book or was that just the mini-series? Felt that scene could have helped in some world building

Clearly a misstep in not including this and also downplaying the importance and influence of the guild navigators. And as I have said in another thread I really enjoyed the movie, but after a second watch last night. I feel Villeneuve's attempt to make this his own take and not a remake of they Lynch version, actually comes of as a good bit of laziness on his part and a bit of incompleteness in the end.
