If you feel that the death penalty is a wonderful deterrent hen why is the murder rate going up? The truth is the death penalty does not work and it costs a lot more in legal costs due to all of the appeals.

Who is getting executed? It usually takes 30 years or more, which is ridiculous. Look back at violent crimes that happened in the 30s and 40s and they were usually executed within 2 years of committing the crime.

A guy that I went to high school with murdered his girlfriend by setting her on fire inside her car. It wasn't one of these cases where a conviction came on flimsy, circumstantial evidence. There was no doubt that he did it and it still took the state of TN 35+ years to carry out his sentence.

He committed the crime in the late 80s and was finally executed 2 or 3 years ago.
