To measure the effectiveness of a vaccine, you have to compare infections by the unvaccinated. I'm not arguing for the vaccine, I'm just saying those allegedly alarming numbers are incomplete.
When Big Pharma claims their vaccine is 90% effective, they mean it reduces your chances of infection by 90%. So, of you had a 10% chance of getting infected (based on your health, occupation, lifestyle, etc.), then the vaccine should lower your odds to 1%. If you had a 50% chance then your odds would be lowered to 5%
There has to be a comparison to an unvaccinated group to determine their odds of infection. Then you compare the vaccinated group.
You also have to compare hospitalizations and deaths, since that shows the ability of immune systems to fight off an infection.
I don't think the vaccines are truly 90% effective, but your quoted data is insufficient to claim the vaccines don't work.
