It happened likely just before shift change and was likely instantaneous. Sitting in a lot writing reports is very common in law enforcement. And that he didn’t go out of service at 5a when their shift change occurred and no one following up is likely due to the pursuit and ensuing manhunt. It’s a very sad situation. He was only found when people went looking for him after he didn’t log in for shift that night. I’m not sure if he had family here, but there’s an odd level of understanding that when things like this happen, it becomes all hands on deck and ‘don’t bother me unless it’s emergent’, he very unfortunately got lost in the shuffle.
