Yes BIL had early onset of Alzheimer’s in his mid 50’s. Super intelligent doctor with no family history of that disease. He lingered for years until he passed at 61. He didn’t recognize his own children at the end. So sad and just a terrible disease. I'm sure many people on TD would recognize his name.
I had to drive him home from our mother-in-law's funeral when he was in the middle stages of the disease. He was still very cognizant but you could tell he wasn't the same man anymore. We got near his house but then drove around in circles for a while because he couldn't tell me exactly where his house was. (he had remarried and lived in a different house). That's when the reality of the disease and the effect it was having on him hit me.
