Lee up to challenge

I guess I was as nervous as anyone when Hatch went down, and Lee, who was clearly nervous in the service in his previous appearance in the game looking like he was rattled and discombobulated and most assuredly all of 19 years old. Apparently the coaches, and Lee knew more about what made up Lee than did any of us, or maybe that was the hope, and we all found out something about Jarrett Lee that we didn't know previously, no person more so than Lee himself. I found it awe inspiring how Lee looked over at Hatch sitting on the bench being attended to by the trainers, who was without a doubt out for the rest of the game, and then surmised the situation, cast off the demons of his first half performance, and knew the game and entire team was squarely on his shoulders to win or lose. The manner in which he took that responsibility upon himself and took complete control of the situation was a real lesson to all of us. We never really know what we are made of and arguably even who we are until we are put in such a situation where we are it, and it's completely up to us to either succeed of fail, become hero or goat. Much like when a dad passes away at a young age to leave three young boys and mom to carry on by themselves, and the eldest takes the role of leader almost by instinct if not by necessity. That child becomes a man quicker than most any other child on the block simply because he has to. Everyone is depending upon him. Jarrett took that responsibility of leading the team down the field and executing using his talents to almost perfection because of necessity, and now Jarrett and the rest of us know more about who Lee is than previously, tested and refined by the heat of refining gold, the impurities cast out the top of the cauldron, and what is left is more pure than before, getting ever closer to becoming 24 carat.

I for one did not think he had it in him. What character to come through under adversity. What TEAM character not to throw him under the bus at the half. Lesticles may be the mad hatter, but he is as good at handling adverse situations (Katrina, Gustav, Ike etc.) as a coach can be.

That's what I was getting at I believe. Nobody, and most of all ourselves, know what we are capable of UNTIL we face adversity and either rise to the challenge and pull off what we don't even know ourselves we are capable of, or fold and surrender to our demons in our mind, which is where battlefields like this are fought. The kid clearly has the skills, and now he's got confidence to build upon. Clearly, this will not be the last hurdle and challenge that Mr. Lee will have to face and either rise to the challenge or succumb to it, much as the same in all of our lives, but it is something seriously awesome for Lee to build upon, and is a great foundation for his future.

I for one, have always preferred J. Lee. I really have never been that impressed by Hatch!!
Just glad it's finally plain to see!
All those D.A. commentators that said there was NO WAY LSU's Freshamn QB could go into that hostile stadium and win a game!
This is LS - Freaking - U....!!Glad to end that streak!!

Nice post MdT
Gen'ral Lee has always had it in him - just a matter when it would happen. The licking he took early on most likely was a good thing for the long run. He was brilliant and showed incredible poise and character throughout.
I was especially impressed with the way Les handled him each time he came to sidelines early on. Les calmed him and that seemed to weigh heavily on the Gen'ral. Lee even went on to pat Les on the back as if he were saying, "Thanks Coach" or something to that effect.
This kid is a freshman and has the potential to be around 4 years. I am very impressed with such a freshman arm and mentality. He;s gonna be a gamer for sure. I hope he gets the nod from here out.
Also, I sincerely hope that Hatch can come back from that head ringer. That was flat out ugly.

Thanks Bayou, and yeah, it was awesome watching the General move the troops down the field with such command in the second half. I too think he's got all the potential in the world to be as good as he wants to become here at LSU, and believe he's got it in him to do just that. And as far as Hatch is concerned, man my heart dropped for the guy. He's a great guy, and uses his head. No matter who starts, I believe Hatch has earned his place here, and will continue to improve as well. I just hope the guy's OK. I've had my bell rung similarly before with a concussion, and brotha let me tell you, it's the most disoriented and out of control of my faculties I think I've ever felt. I wish him only the very best.

Are the politicall correct fundies not going to allow Lee to be referred to as The 'Genral?

Ta heck with em Bayou. They are weak minded to begin with and followers rather than leaders like Lee. It's just too perfect not to refer to him as General Lee. He became a field general last night, and his last name is Lee. Can't get any more apropos than that if you tried.
