1. There's nothing wrong w/ a Gen 3. My wife and sons carry them. I carry a Gen 2 simply because I started carrying G19's before there was a Gen 3.
2.All of the "early" Gen 3'w had Tenifer finish. Glock changed to a different finish in 2012 when the EPA got involved (the gun components were made in Austria and assembled in Smyrna, GA.)
3. I don't think there's a significant difference in today's finish vs. the Tenifer.
4. I didn't click on the links in the replies you received, but presumably someone referred you to Gunbroker. They had plenty the last time I looked. If the price of NIB Gen 3's is too high (Usually $500 - $550), look into buying a used one. Glock (in Smyrna) will inspect any used Glock you send them, replace any worn parts, replace any parts that have been re-designed since the date the gun was made, and return it to you (along with any parts removed) -- all at zero cost to you (other than your cost for shipping it to Glock).

One thing I forgot to mention.
There’s nothing wrong with 4 or 5. All are time tested. So are most polymer pistols.
But the glock gen 3 is definitely time tested and no striker drags or any other issues with new guns isn’t really a thing anymore.
