I'm surprised no one on here has explained why the US is paying $1 billion to Israel per year for the Iron Dome defense system. The actual reason why the US is paying Israel is because the US paid Israel not to manufacture the Iron Dome defense missiles. The US wanted to manufacture the missiles in order to help create around 7k manufacturing jobs here in the US.

Israel said sure you pay us $1 billion a year and you can manufacture them in Virginia. Israel could move the missile manufacturing plant tomorrow and 7k jobs would be lost at Raytheon. This was the Quid Pro Quo as to why the US gives Israel a billion a year. The US Gov't wanted those jobs in the US not in Israel.
