79 LSU finished 7-5, but close calls against USC, Florida State, and Bama. I realize that was a 9-3 Tulane team ranked in the top 20, but I can’t imagine they had the talent of the Tigers.

‘81 LSU headed into the game at 3-6-1. Regardless, no Tiger squad should get dumped 48-7 by 5-5 Tulane.

‘82 loss to Tulane might be one of the most inexplicable losses in LSU history. It didn’t have a lasting impact, as the Tigers still went to the Orange Bowl and damn near knocked off the Huskers. You would think coming off a win over Florida State would be enough momentum to beat a 3-win team at home.

79 Tulane had Larry Smith as HC, up an coming coach, he was hired by Arizona, who had just joined the PAC 8 to make it the PAC 10 and had a solid record there. Got the USC, job, first 3 years got to the Rose bowl, lost first 2, won 3rd, had a losing season then a 6-5 year and resigned due to pressure went to Mizzou.

81 and 82 LSU lost to Vegas Vince Gibson, 82 was one of the worst in the history, LSU was like a 30 point favorite. I was at that game.
