Simmons has to be the 5

And in that scenario we will be gutted and Simmons’ elite defense is squandered because you are putting him in the one position he does not do well in. He’s fine in short bursts but it makes little sense to pay the beat perimeter defender in the league to come in and play center next to an around the rim player that will want the ball in his hands 35-50 percent of possessions while Simmons gives you nothing.

He is not a rim protector and doesn’t bang with bigger centers well. He’s also not an elite rebounder.

It’s a terrible fit and that roster doesn’t make it better

Where is the data that says he doesn't do well in that position?
I don't know, i'm legit asking as i haven't looked it up.

No i wouldn't want him playing the 5 against Jokic, or Embiid. Zion needs to step the frick up too. His big arse needs to be guarding some of these big arse non offensive 5's like Gobert. All you have to do with them is block them out, and Zion should be the best block out defender in the league with his huge arse.
While i think Simmons would have trouble with Jokic and Embiid, wouldn't you love to run a pick and roll with Zion and Simmons and have Jokic have to defend it? He's not going to step up, so as long as the screener can set a good screen and keep that defender behind him as he rolls, Jokic has to decide how to stop the freight train coming at him or defend the alley oop, unless help comes and that's what BI/Trey/another 3P shooter are in the game for, and on top of that, Zion doesn't give a frick about 6' guards sliding over into the paint to help on him.

I get what you are saying about Simmons defense being wasted at the 5 though, and it's a good point. Maybe having a 5 like Myles Turner that can hit open 3's would work offensively, and allow Simmons to defend the perimeter.
