Brown is from Washington D.C. In the D.C. "hood" the term "bama" is an insult that means not stylish, or unsophisticated. Maybe this is what he meant.

Meh. Tell me you're a Boomer without telling me you're a Boomer. James Brown is, what, 60 years old. What he said has no relevance to today.

People, including those in "the hood", who are 30 years old or younger, "Bama" has been associated with excellence most of their lives.

Conclusion...James Brown is old.

You reckon Brown could find the hood? Doubt he's seen the hood in 40 years.
