Each barcode is assigned to a print count. When they return the seats off the account in the ticketing system the print count changes to 0 and voids the barcode that was assigned when the original print file was generated. When the access control software downloads all the valid barcodes on gameday, what used to be the barcode on the printed ticket that was refunded won’t be picked up in the feed, and the scanners at the gate won’t recognize it. The same thing happens when a ticket holder transfers seats, sells them on StubHub, reprints, or downloads them to their phone. The print count changes and new barcode is assigned. The access control system only marks one barcode per seat as good/valid.
