I don't think anyone is maintaining that we should not have left Afghanistan. However, Biden left with no plan whatsoever. That's the problem.
As to the war in general. It was a necessary war and occupation. It allowed us to take away the last safe haven for Al Quaeda and systematically destroy them. The violent Jihad, always present in Islam, surged around the 1980's. It culminated with the twin towers coming down about two decades ago. It was always going to fade eventually. We occupied Afghanistan long enough to wait it out. The war in Afghanistan was effective.

I am.
I think withdrawing is a mistake. Biden should have never withdrawn, which is what I think his mistake was. I think any withdrawal would have ended up with a mess like this. The Afghan army would have fallen because the only reason they were there was because of American troops backing them. With America withdrawing, the Afghan army would easily back down because nobody wants to risk their life for a cause they can't believe in.
Trump brokered a deal with the Taliban and I blame him for that. I blame Biden for agreeing to honor it. It's a mistake and I think Biden did so for political reasons rather than what is right.
