I do have a yankee side of the family. One of my great-great grandfathers was in the 4th Iowa Cavalry. A couple of other great-great-great uncles were in Iowa and Indiana units.

I’ve tracked down at least forty Confederate ancestors, from three great-great grandfathers to over a dozen great-great-great uncles and the rest distant cousins who all fought, some bled, and a few died for the Confederacy.

One fought for both sides.

My son will have the real interesting stuff to research. Just in the 20th century he has had relatives in the military of the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, Germany, and Yugoslavia.
