Uh, no - they don't even have the ability to isolate Delta variant versus OG COVID - at least not efficiently, so they have to make assumptions as to when symptoms arose.

Couple that with the relatively recent data about PCR testing and A LOT of historical data about COVID infections is going to have to be trashed as invalid.

That's different with the HIV families and (ultimately) well-understood mutation patterns, it was sometimes (not always) possible to identify which carrier initiated which outbreak of HIV.

If they can do that with COVID in July 2021, I'll eat my hat.

I guess it's possible that I'm missing the point, but if the assertion is that a staff member of a hospital was the source of a covid infection of a particular patient, it wouldn't be possible to isolate the identities of the staff members who came into contact with the patient, and then determine which of those staff members were vaccinated and which weren't, or perhaps even more straightforward, which of those staff members may have subsequently been diagnosed with covid, no matter the variant?
