From the little research I have done, there was some “professional player” allegations on the team. Charges that the Smith brothers, Seip, Lally, Gandy & Doc Fenton where paid salaries to play football. Therefore, LSU will never recognize them as National Champions.

Thanks for the info. Odd that the NCAA is cool with them being champions but LSU is taking the high road.

I DVR'd every game that season.
Went to 3 games in person.
We were unstoppable.

It makes no sense not to claim a legitimate title. The NCAA recognized LSU as the National Champions with other schools. Iowa claims the 1958 title with LSU. That's ridiculous for Iowa. Get AD'S who will do the right thing for the school.

Every team under Curley would have beaten that 1908 team

I am not so sure about that.

Grantland Rice accused the headcoach of bringing down ringers from PA with him, including the team's superstar doc fenton and best lineman, Mike lally. Tulane refused to play us. The media wouldn't award us the siaa title because of this. We were later cleared by the conference but some of those players were ringers.
