It usually isn’t done but no rule against it. I wouldn’t just because it will get weathered. I’d put it in a display case made for the flag folded from coffins.

It’s actually something pretty cool our government does because I’m not sure if my family contacted them or not. Doesn’t seem like something my mom would have done but they were there for his funeral.
