in leiu of new issue onthe OL....What are the target par levels for positions on a roster? Or, how many Scholarships should be used for each position to provide adequate depth.
Offense Scholarships ~41
Defense Scholarships ~41
Special Teams ~3
Once we shake the 81 scholarship issue after this year (I think)
Offense 41 scholarships
QB...........4
RB...........5
WR...........4
WR...........4
WR...........3
TE...........5 if two TE sets used
LT...........4
G............3
C............3
G............3
RT...........3
Defense 41 (for a 4-3)
SDE...........4
NT…..........3
DT…..……4
WDE…......4
OLB.....…..4
MLB..........4
OLB..........3
CB/nickel....4
CB...........3
FS/nickel....4
SS...........4
……including the fact that you’ll pick a nickel out of the dbs.
Special Teams 3
PK...........1
P............1
Snap.........1
Also, some here have said that you only need a solid 2-deep on the line with 2 guys that can play third string. But interior o and d linemen get hurt more than anyone. I don’t buy into the theory that if you are on your three deep by November you’re in trouble. That’s why you recruit depth and have some sophomore/juniors readst to go if the need arrives. I like 16.

Ideally, I agree completely with your take. We know, of course, that it can never be perfect because of reasons too numerous and obvious to mention, but I wholeheartedly agree with you on the linemen. You need the numbers for depth, development, and for some who just don't pan out.

There is no "hey, we signed 3 fourstars and 1 fivestar last year so we can sign any four guys this year".
They search, scout and prioritize the top linemen every year. THose players compete for the top 5 spots. The ones that don't get to play garbage time in 2021 and are ready by 2022. Some will transfer but the bluechips stay and do very very well.
They don't rely on some True frosh to come in to save the day. It may happen, but they don't need that option, often.
I know we do to, but we have whiffed on too many.

Dellinger and Dumveril have tons of potential, seems like a golden opportunity for either of them to step up and be that bookend LT. Same for Cam Wire
