Honestly, I agree with him. I think that's a more accurate reading of the intent of the 2nd Amendment. I think the Founders would have agreed. As soon as you start allowing there to be any infringement, it's hard to act like there is an obvious line across which you can't go.
I would have thought you were ape **** bonkers 5 years ago, now I agree with you.

There was an old poster here named Coolidge. Some of us knew him from back in the days of TigerRoar. He died about 15 years or so ago I'd guess, but he was a great guy and an incredibly smart guy. As I remember it, he was both an attorney and an engineer.
In any event, I'd never considered this before and one day he made this argument and was serious about it. Basically that at the time of the founding, there were zero limits on arms. Citizens had the exact same rights to own anything the government had. The Founders were smart guys...had they intended for the government to woefully outgun the citizens, they'd have put limits in place even then. They did not.
The fact that technology and cost has made it virtually impossible for normal citizens to have what our tax dollars combined can afford the government does not, in theory, mean we ought not have the right to own them based solely on the language of the 2nd amendment.
I'm not saying it's actually feasible...just that there is no logical reason to limit arms based on what's written in the 2nd. Any time we do, we erode the original intent. Trying to find a line at that point will always be a challenge.
