but to say LSU is the Alabama of football is absurd. It may have been that way under Skip

That's kind of the point.

USC may have the most championships in baseball, but they haven't done anything since the 70s, outside of winning it all in 98? I would almost consider USC baseball to be like UCLA basketball while LSU would be the equal to Kentucky basketball. Especially in the current idea or branding.

Only one school has half the titles in baseball we have since 1991 and that’s Oregon state. The closest behind that is 2 since then. We are king of college baseball no matter what anyone still thinks.

This still matters. ^

Also, LSU has a similar fan base to Alabama. Other SEC programs may have better facilities now, but no other fan base travels or invests like LSU's baseball fans. LSU is still the king of college baseball. The success may not be what it once was, but LSU is still successful and the main draw in college baseball. They also still pull in top 5 classes year in and year out.

Of course nobody really compares to Alabama football, but even they went through a much worse period in between transitions than LSU has from their domination.

If you polled the casual baseball or sports fan, and I don't mean college baseball fan, who they associate with being the best college baseball program, I would bet LSU is listed the most. Point is LSU is still considered the elite destination for college baseball, IMO.
