It has both

I was fascinated by Russia. It was both alien, and familiar. I've spent a lot of time in France, much of my family lives there. But I don't love France, and I would never live there.

Russia, I would live in Russia. There is something about the way the Russians recognize the humanity in each other. People are open hearted, and honest. And they will not do something that effects you, without talking to you about it.

It's hard to articulate, but I distinct impression that I was always someone to the people I spoke with.

In New York City, people put up emotional walls, until they become islands of one. Russians are the opposite.

Russians are also very traditional. Men are still men, and women are (usually) still ladies.

They wall themselves off with earbuds and a steadfast will to avoid any eye contact. If they can't see you or hear you, you don't exist in their world.
