Any successful business person isn’t going to want to go through the dirty aspects of a campaign. I can’t blame them. It;s going to take a very unique individual who is likely already wealthy, articulate and a consensus builder for BR to get a conservative mayor. Now a days if you are conservative and want law and order you are labeled a racist. Not saying that should dissuade a truly honorable person but most people would rather not get into the mud of a campaign.

This is it, in a nutshell. When politics gets dirty like we see it around the country today, candidates for higher-profile positions either have very clean backgrounds, their own funding and a strong enough backbone and family structure to weather the negative attacks (rare) or they are so egotistical enough they are able to let it go because getting the job means more to them than shielding themselves and their family and friends from such scrutiny (and often outright lies).
