Season 2 isn't as bad as most remember and season 1 isn't as good. The switch to LA hurt the show, but I get that most people think of detectives and think Los Angeles but the settings in season 1 and 3 are really different and that is a good thing for the show. There are also too many characters imo. Vince Vaughn and his wife feel like they are in very different shows than everyone else.

Just finished a rewatch last week. It has great characters, a great plot, and great atmosphere

I don't know. I watched it week to week when it first aired then later I went back and watched a few episodes at a time. Of course its a little different when you already know what happens, but I wouldn't say it isn't as good.
When season 2 started I watched maybe two episodes and was disappointed that it was a completely different format. It seemed like because season 1 was so popular they had to put out a season 2, but then season 3 they went back to the format of season 1 and it was really good.
