Shortly before jumping into the race for Florida governor this week, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried amended two separate financial disclosure forms, including one showing previously unreported earnings of $351,480. In both instances, Fried reported earning substantially more money from her lobbying business than she initially disclosed — money that in part came from work she did on behalf of a Gainesville-based nursery that was eventually acquired by a medical marijuana company.

Fried amended the forms she filed in June 2018 when she qualified for the ballot to show that instead of earning $84,000 from her consulting company, Igniting Florida, that she actually earned nearly $166,000 during the previous year. Flugrath said that when she first filed in 2018 that Fried provided her attorney with her salary for the 2018 calendar year, or roughly six months of income. He said that “we realized 2017 gross income, including all of her business’ income and reimbursements, should have been reported, not just her salary. All of her assets have been disclosed — the only update was to fix the filing error on income.”
