Phone Won't Read SIM Card After Update

So I recently bought a Galaxy that looked like it was never used. And settings indicated the phone was unlocked. Despite having some slightly off-putting T Mobile animation when I turned it on, and a T Mobile app I couldn't get rid of, it still worked with my provider. And it didn't effect how it operated, I learned to live with the extra T Mobile junk it came pre installed with. Just a few days ago, Samsung forced some update I didn't want. I tried to delay, but to no avail. After the update, my phone will no longer read the SIM card. So I went to the Verizon store yesterday to hopefully get this straightened out. After a lengthy time trying various methods, the associate still couldn't get the phone to read the SIM. He said the phone previously tethered to T Mobile from the previous owner likely has something to do with it. Even a factory reset didn't help. So I apparently have to get a new Verizon locked phone to get what I thought I was supposed to get when I got this one. I'm no phone expert. So I was surprised and disappointed a new phone is the only other option. Is this typical with all phones is this day and age? Anyone else have this problem?

I haven't had that problem, but I have had a problem with a verizon store. They were absolutely worthless and didn't even really try to help. So when I got home, I got on the phone with verizon and after talking with nine different people, I finally found someone that understood the issue and was able to take care of it in a couple of minutes.
So you might try calling verizon and if whoever you are speaking with can't help you, be persistent and ask if they can find someone else for you to speak to.

Thanks for the feedback. The Verizon associate I went to was very helpful. He spent a long time trying to fix the problem. They were much more helpful than T Mobile was. I suspect when I call Verizon they will want an assload of information I don't have access to since I'm not an account manager. I'm just along for the ride on a family plan. Verizon and Best Buy want some pin number that I don't have since I'm on a family plan. I was hoping I wouldn't need that. I may get annoyed to the point that I buy my own plan so I will have access to all that information even if it does mean I suddenly have a phone bill every month. It's extremely disappointing and aggrevating to go through this not long after I bought it. I never would have guessed it would be this complicated to fix.

Have you checked to see if the phone is IMEI blacklisted?

The phone worked fine before the update. So it shouldn't be.

Mine needed a new SIM card. They said going from 4G LTE to a 5G phone was causing issues due to old SIM card. I switched it and had no issues.

I tried that. A 5G SIM card is in it now. It didn't do any good.

My Pixel 4 (eSIM) lost both mobile data and Wifi. I tried numerous things and only a factory reset got me back. I read afterwards that there was and update to eSIM and Connectivity Services apps that came out around the 27th that might be the cause.

The Verizon associate tried a factory reset. It didn't work. He says the phone previously tethered to T Mobile likely is why it won't read the SIM card. I have no idea why T Mobile stupidly locks useless junk on the phone when it is compatible with any network. And it worked like it was supposed to for the first month I had it.
The 27th was around the time Samsung forced some update on mine. I was at the Verizon store on Saturday for 2 hours trying everything possible to get it to read the SIM card.
