The author is an idiot. Sound at higher pitches carries farther.
Also, nobody wants to listen to another person screaming and yelling all the time - whether on the phone or not.
Then there's the line about taking the chance of getting into a physical altercation. frick all that.
I back Karen here. My guess is loudmouth Diamond was equally loud and dismissive of the cops, so she was cited. Had she apologized and promised to keep it down then I'm willing to bet both the cops and Karen would have been satisfied.
