It all depends on what supplies you have. I've spent a couple of nights out in the Louisiana marsh on the barrier islands and I could not do it without a tent. A tent is more important than a gun or fishing pole. I could manage to catch protein without a gun or fishing pole but I couldn't last a single night in the Louisiana marsh without a tent. The mosquitoes will eat you alive and if the mosquitoes are not biting the gnats are.
