I’ve only watched episode one but I’m still willing to give it a chance. Aziz has always been a sharp guy, and I’ve respected his artistic choices throughout his career.

I do though think this is another example (in a very long line of examples) of forcing social justice leading to subpar entertainment. I loved Denise’s character in seasons 1 and 2. Her homosexuality and viewpoints added to the show that Dev was wanting to write. Now that it’s forced for the sake of representing black lesbian couples, the entertainment value of the show has worn off. It feels didactic even if it’s doing an okay job not being overly preachy.

Gay characters can be fantastic when they’re written organically and they’re not trying to force it down your throat.

Holt from B99 and Oscar are 2 of my favorite characters in the last 10 years.
