American christians believe lots of things previously unheard of in the entirety of christian theology.
John Hagee's dispensationalist heresy is one of them.

The 100% literal, six day creation and 6-10k year geneology as described in Genesis is the most intriguing to me. It's an entirely indefensible, easily falsifiable idea held by tens of millions of American christians and virtually completely absent from the rest of the christian world or christian history. Even early Jewish theologians, and virtually all of the early church fathers, read the early parts of Genesis prior to the flood account as partially or entirely symbolic. Mainstream orthodox Jewish thought has ALWAYS been that the creation account is non-literal.
But Jim Bob from small town Alabama thousands of years after the fact has finally figured it out.
