I believe the rumor is that the U.S. Catholic Bishops Conference, which is set to take place in June, will see a public letter that forbids pro-choice Catholic politicians from receiving the Eucharist be released. The Archbishop of San Francisco might have just confirmed this with this letter. This is his way of offering them a lifeline. If they don't take it, they will be publicly forbidden from receiving communion on Sundays.
