They won’t eat you. They eat by filtering food out of the water like whales do..

There are some pictures of some guys from Houma sitting on one in the GOM.

They congregate during the summer at Ewing Bank in the GOM. Although I have fished there many times I never saw them.

Anything that has that size is potentially dangerous, but they’re incredibly docile. I dove with one off the North Wall in Grand Cayman. We swam right up to it and held onto its dorsal fin as it swam around. I never felt like I or anyone in our group was in danger.
