McDonnell would be a tough pull. I think it was Mississippi State that made a run at him. Whoever it was scared Louisville into giving McDonnell a 7 year deal that he can roll over each year.
I haven’t read the actual contract, but per the article below it started at $1.15 million a season, and so long as he makes a super regional it goes up $100,000 a year. There are retention bonuses in there also.
From what I can tell, it’s basically a lifetime deal that’ll pay him almost $2 million a year by 2027, and has a buyout of over $7 million if he’s ever fired.
If that’s the case, Woodward will need to lead with 6 years $12 million to even get McDonnell’s agent to return the call.

I read it, he should have received a $250k bonus at end of 2020, and is eligible for $300k bonuses at the end of 2025 and 2028. Annual salary bump of $50k per year and some other much smaller achievement bonuses annually tied to performance, academics, etc. Base salary started at $1.15M. I assume LSU could make it work financially but probably wouldn't and why would he leave a great job with an easier path to CWS for the grind of the SEC? Sent 84 players to MLB, he's not struggling to recruit guys to Louisville.
