The reason your RPMs were higher with the cruise set is because your torque converter was unlocked. When it is unlocked, you are operating at reduced efficiency. Reduced efficiency in a transmission means more heat.

Running for extended periods at highway speeds with your torque converter unlocked isn't a good idea with 99% of the transmissions made after 1995.

At the very least, get that shitty mopar ATF +4 out of there and fill with valvoline full syn.



ETA: was the main reason an AW4 went in my old jeep in college when the transmission failed from running 35s on the wrong gears and accelerating to redline for every gear
