The Lexus front end is ugly to me.
Besides...you can get the 4Runner TRD with KDSS and even more off road hardware than the GX. The 4Runner also has CarPlay that the GX doesn’t have for some reason.
But the GX has a damn good V8 which is a huge selling point.

Toyota is so odd with what features you can get in certain vehicles. The 4Runner still doesn't have an automatic tailgate, even the Limited. Obviously no V8, which they used to offer.
You even see on the new 300 Series, they still have a static gauge cluster and a standard size moon roof. Those are technological advancements you can make to appeal to a customer base, while still making the vehicle as capable as possible.
Look at what GMC is doing with the AT4 line of the Yukon, for example. Great interior, but outfitting it to be more capable with electronic LSD, increased approach angle, underbody protection.

They're closely matched. But man have you priced TRDs lately. frick that. The only real additional offroad hardware on the 4Rs is the locking diff, which I've never needed but then again I just cruise around the ranch and don't go hit hardcore trails. And the new ones come with carplay finally. But the front end is subjective, it doesn't bother me personally.
As far as the V8, I enjoy the extra 20ish hp, but its a gas guzzler. It is bulletproof though.
